GP Locum Support in Essex

The National Association of Sessional GPs is working in partnership with all three Essex ICBs to provide sessional GPs and practices with a range of free services including membership to use the LocumDeck platform enabling locums and practices to connect, advertise sessions and availability, and save time and effort on locum booking administration.

This offer includes the option NASGP Locum Chambers, which is ideal for GP locums who don’t want to go it alone. As an NASGP Locum Chambers member you enjoy all the benefits of being part of NASGP and LocumDeck, and you get the full support of a Chamber Manager and Clinical Director, regular online Chamber meetings, chasing of late payments and much more.

Join NASGP Locum Chambers and enjoy comprehensive professional and peer support tailored specifically for GP locums. Make your locum journey easier, more connected, and more efficient with NASGP’s Chambers membership.

As an NASGP Locum Chambers member, you’ll benefit from:

  • Dedicated guidance from a Clinical Director.
  • Regular connection through monthly online meetings for updates and support.
  • Effortless invoicing, with automated monthly invoicing and invoice-chasing.
  • Strong peer support from a community of like-minded professionals.
  • A voice into NHS England and national organisations in the current climate of change.
  • Simplified chamber management to make your work smoother.
  • Cost savings with reduced ‘Instant Book’ fees on LocumDeck.

Please note different ICBs may have different membership options. For example, there are two active groups running in Mid and North Essex. Read more about NASGP Locum Chambers or get in touch with the ICB where you are based to find out more about locum opportunities in Essex.

Hertfordshire and West Essex ICB

NASGP has run an NASGP Locum Chambers in Hertfordshire and west Essex since it partnered with the ICB in 2021.

NASGP has a great working relationship with the ICB and practices. It is starting to expand primary care provider organisations and other stability partnership work in the area.

Contact NASGP info@nasgp.org.uk or hwetraininghub.org.uk for more info.

Mid and South Essex ICB

NASGP has run an NASGP Locum Chambers in mid and south Essex since it partnered with the ICB in 2021.

NASGP has built a strong working relationship with the ICB and practices across the geography and will continue to develop the offer and diversification of work placements in the coming months. In her role as Chambers Champion Lead (2023-24) at the MSE Training Hub Dr Kamilla Porter worked with NASGP to establish a dedicated MSE Locum Chambers, that continues to meet regularly every month (members are required to be active on LocumDeck and there has been CPD support available to MSE locums regularly booking sessions via the platform).

Suffolk and North East Essex ICB

NASGP has run an NASGP Locum Chambers in northeast Essex since it partnered with the ICB in 2021 and opened the group to Suffolk GPs after partnering with The GP Support Hub in 2023.

If you are a GP who wants to work in Suffolk and northeast Essex, you are still able to take advantage of fully funded use of LocumDeck.

When you confirm just one in-person session at any participating local practice on LocumDeck NASGP will automatically give you all the benefits of NASGP membership, and waive local booking fees: nasgp.org.uk/suffolk-essex-gp-locums

South Essex GP Group

The South Essex GP Group (previously known as the Southend Sessional GP Group) is a self-directed learning and peer support group set up originally for locum and salaried doctors. The Southend SGP Group was established in 2009 and started out as a group of four meeting up informally in one another’s front room for a general chat and peer support.  Following on from the success of the inaugural Essex SGP Conference in 2011 the group expanded and until the COVID 19 Pandemic met regularly at the Spire Wellesley Hospital in Southend.

To reflect the broader participation of GPs from across both southwest and southeast Essex and several members becoming partners, the group changed its name to South Essex GP Group in November 2015. Regular face to face meetings continued until 2019.

Since the pandemic the group has continued to keep in contact virtually via WhatsApp. This has been a useful means of sharing information about CPD, job opportunities and general peer support. Restabilising regular face to face peer support and educational meetings continues to be explored and social events are organised in and around Southend at least twice year.

The South Essex GP Group discusses a wide range of issues, especially those pertinent to working as a sessional doctor and has members who are just starting out in general practice and others who have become sessional doctors after many years in partnership.  It can be quite isolating working as a sessional doctor or indeed in any frontline GP role given the current high pressure clinical environment. Connecting with other colleagues is a good opportunity to share experiences and find out about local opportunities and support.
